Chicago, Illinois- a 237 square mile city with a population of 3 million- is the largest populated city in Illinois and in the Midwest. It resides in the northeastern part of Illinois, resting on the southwestern border of Lake Michigan. It’s the third-most populous city in the region, behind New York City and Los Angeles, and one of the largest suburban areas in the country.
Chicago, or sometimes called the Windy City or the City of Broad Shoulders, was incorporated as a city in 1837 and quickly became the leader of transportation, finance, and industry in the Midwest. Chicago’s airport O’Hare International is the nation’s second busiest airport, and will be the port you will arrive in. It is also the airport you will leave in to Spain later in your adventure.
